Hanoi (VNA) - The Embassy of Sweden in Hanoi has announced funding in excess of USD 1.2 million (10 million SEK) to support UN reform efforts in Vietnam.
The funds will help the UN better respond to Vietnam’s
changing socio-economic development needs through more coordinated and effective
assistance during 2009-2010.
Vietnam is one of eight countries worldwide
piloting UN reform at the country level from late 2005.
According to
Sweden’s Ambassador to Vietnam, the One UN initiative in Vietnam in particular
has so far been well-organised and moved on with impressive pace.
“This
process has showed the clear leadership of the Government of Vietnam but has
also involved all concerned agencies, donors and other stakeholders in a
constructive and transparent fashion,” he said in a press release.
The
One UN Initiative in Vietnam was launched to better harmonise the activities of
the UN agencies, funds and programmes as a means of achieving greater focus,
efficiency and development.
The Initiative is comprised of five key
areas: One Leader, One Plan, One Budget, One set of Management Practices and One
UN House. |
